The 2023 edition of the Benny&Co. Foundation Annual Fundraiser collects $90,000

The Benny&Co. Foundation, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, raised more than $90,000 in the third edition of its Annual Fundraiser, with the support of spokespeople Benjamin Gratton (Monde de Benjamin) and his father, Mathieu Gratton. The proceeds will be used to fund more than sixty summer camp experiences for young people with special needs, allowing them to have fun at a camp adapted to their requirements. The three organizations supported by the initiative are Camp Papillon, le Camp Massawippi et la Société franco-ontarienne de l’autisme.

Throughout the month of April, Benny&Co. customers were invited to make donations in their restaurants. Each location also joined the cause by donating $0.50 to Benny&Co. Foundation for each meal sold from the kid’s menu, thus doubling their usual involvement. The Foundation would like to thank the loyal Benny&Co. customers in the restaurant’s 79 locations in Quebec and Ontario, as well as their employees and partners, for their generosity during the 2023 Annual Fundraiser.

“In Quebec, approximately 100,000 families have a minor child with a disability. As a result, their parents face significant financial challenges due to their professional constraints and the special needs of their children. One thing is certain: There is a lack of resources available in Quebec. This year, the Benny&Co. Foundation is once again contributing, in its own way, to offer respite to more than sixty families and we hope to do more, year after year,” said Yves Benny, President of the Benny&Co Foundation.

Since its creation, this annual event has allowed more than 220 young people to experience a moment of fulfillment in an adapted camp, while giving a moment of respite to their parents or caregiver. The respite becomes a breath of fresh air that allows parents to maintain a balanced social life and to enjoy a little rest in order to better give back to their child. In addition to stays adapted for young people, the Foundation supports projects and initiatives of other organizations and groups whose mission is in line with its values.

A collaboration with Phil Roy for the return of the GOOD chicken strips!

Nearly two years ago, the third generation of the Benny family put their heart and soul into the creation of a new chicken strips recipe to meet the growing demand of their customers, while maintaining the superior quality of their chicken protein.

However, the arrival of this culinary innovation was far from universally accepted. Many fans of Benny&Co. expressed their dissatisfaction… So, the new generation of the company’s leadership took full responsibility for their entrepreneurial misstep and brought back the original recipe of chicken strips that was so beloved by Quebecers, thus demonstrating humility and resilience.

To celebrate the long-awaited return of our original chicken strips, the Benny&Co. team has created a social media campaign in collaboration with Quebec comedian and host Phil Roy. This campaign highlights the most delicious comments received by Benny&Co. over the past two years regarding their chicken strips, while reminding us of a very important lesson: To err is human and the important thing is to pick yourself up and begin anew!

To watch the video: The return of the GOOD chicken strips at Benny&Co.!

Enjoy our social media campaign and, above all, bon appétit!

BENNY & CO. EXPANDS ITS PRESENCE IN TERREBONNE

The Benny family opens its 14th restaurant in the Lanaudière region.

Benny & Co.  opened its 3rd restaurant in the city of Terrebonne, more specifically in the La Plaine sector. Part of the community for nearly 30 years, the Benny family is proud to continue the expansion of its projects in Lanaudière.

The Benny & Co. La Plaine location is the company’s 14th restaurant in the Lanaudière region and follows those inaugurated at 794 des Seigneurs Boulevard last July and at 2370 Gascon Road in June 2020. The opening of the three restaurants in Terrebonne represents an overall investment of more than $5 million and the creation of more than 100 jobs. Also, for the occasion, the Benny & Co. Foundation donated $6,000 to Répits de Gaby, a local organization that offers four types of respite to families of autistic children.

“It is important for us to maintain the values of excellence and quality that have been ingrained in our family, while being involved in our community. Since 1960, we have valued teamwork and partnering with local businesses in order to offer the best experience to our customers, while perpetuating the vision of our co-founders. I will be managing this third restaurant in Terrebonne alongside my two children, Tanya and Samuel Hardy, and our business partner Guillaume Bédard,” said Maryse Benny, owner of Benny & Co. in La Plaine.

Since 2020, Benny & Co has invested more than $25 million and created more than 350 jobs across the province. In addition, in the past year, the company is proud to have launched its line of grocery products and to have deployed its revamped interior design concept in all new restaurants throughout the chain.

All Benny & Co. restaurants in Terrebonne now offer drive-through, delivery service and take-out service, in addition to the dining room.

Benny & Co. signs a first collaboration with chef emeritus Martin Juneau

Montreal, June 7, 2022. — The Quebec family business Benny & Co. is proud to announce its first ever collaboration with a renowned chef to create a new menu item. The fried chicken burger with jalapeños, created by Chef Martin Juneau, embodies this association, and demonstrates Benny & Co.’s ongoing commitment to renewal while honoring the culinary traditions enjoyed by Quebecers.

Reflecting a shared vision and values as well as a desire to support the restaurant industry, this collaboration is a first for both Benny & Co. and restaurateur Martin Juneau. The latter, in addition to being at the helm of several culinary shows, has been co-owner of the Pastaga restaurant since 2011, a great success in Quebec.

“During the pandemic, I was afraid I wouldn’t make it through following the closure of three of my establishments. The Benny family approached me just as I was celebrating 10 years of Pastaga. We have all worked our way up in the restaurant business and are guided by our entrepreneurial instincts. Helping each other to bring gastronomy to life at a friendly price while encouraging local producers is a very rewarding project for me,” adds Martin Juneau, restaurateur and co-owner of Pastaga.

“Our family values and our desire to offer simple, accessible and festive food have animated our discussions from the start. This is the very first fried chicken patty that we were going to offer to our clientele, and we wanted this dish to be in line with the new image of our restaurants, more modern, but still accessible. The first test of Martin’s recipe was so successful that his daughters even approved the final version. We are very grateful to Martin Juneau for his precious collaboration in this project,” says Elisabeth Benny, Vice-president of marketing and public relations at Benny & Co.

Another first for Benny & Co.

Benny & Co. was determined to offer the highest quality, handmade product for its very first fried chicken patty offered on the menu. After more than a year and several tests to create the perfect product, the Benny&Co. team is more than satisfied with the result: a tender and juicy chicken breast wrapped in a crispy batter made of a secret blend of spices, in a very generous serving.

Benny & Co. remains true to its promise to work with local businesses and producers. The ingredients used in the new burger recipe come from Hydroserre, Fromagerie St-Guillaume and Vinaigrette J.C. Cardinal. The fried chicken burger with jalapeños is available until August 28, 2022, in all the chain’s restaurants.

Dining room reopenings remain challenging

According to Restaurants Canada’s most recent survey of its members, as of April 2022, 84% of restaurants were fully open without restrictions in March 2022, the highest level since the pandemic began. However, four in ten restaurants are still operating at a loss. More than 60 percent estimate that it will take at least 12 months to return to profitability.

“Nearly 70 percent of quick-service restaurants say automation and increased use of technology would help them overcome the labor shortage. The new Benny & Co. restaurant concept features a new, more modern dining room presentation. Customers are identified and served with a table tracker they are given when ordering at the counter. This is a good example of technology serving the industry,” says Olivier Bourdeau, Vice President, Federal Affairs and Quebec, Restaurants Canada.

On May 2, Benny & Co. was named winner in the Large Business Entrepreneurship category of the Mercuriades 2022 competition organized by the Fédération des chambres de commerce du Québec. This recognition highlights the company’s exceptional performance over the past two years, which have been particularly challenging for the restaurant industry.

Benny & Co. has opened 13 new restaurants since the beginning of the pandemic, representing investments of more than $20M that have led to the creation of more than 300 jobs across Quebec. The Quebec-based family business is continuing its expansion plans and will open seven restaurants this year in the cities of Longueuil, Terrebonne, Laval, Jonquière, Rosemère and Mont-Laurier.

Benny & Co. pursues its family history in Longueuil

The Benny family is pleased to pursue the growth of its business on Montreal’s South Shore by announcing the opening of its first restaurant in the City of Longueuil. Present in the Montérégie region since 1977, Benny & Co. is opening its 72nd restaurant in Longueuil’s Saint-Hubert borough. The new location is the company’s 17th in the region.

The Benny & Co. Saint-Hubert is the first in the Montérégie region to offer the new interior design with a bar area, entirely developed by the 3rd generation of the Benny family and the management committee. The expansion of the chain is made possible thanks to the family’s next generation who value excellence, partnerships with local businesses and teamwork, as have the previous generations, who have proudly offered the best products to customers since 1960.

The opening of the restaurant in Saint-Hubert represents an investment of $1.4 million and the creation of 30 jobs. Since most of its employees are part-time students, Benny & Co. franchisees value work-study balance. That’s why Benny&Co. offers a flexible work schedule, a scholarship program and competitive benefits.

The restaurant industry has certainly been one of the hardest hit over the past two years due to the pandemic, but that hasn’t prevented the chain’s expansion, with seven new restaurants opening across the province in 2021, from Montreal to Chicoutimi. This year is no exception, with the Saint-Hubert location being the first opening of 2022 and six additional openings planned between now and the end of the year.

2021: Quite a year for Benny & Co.!

2021 was a busy year for Benny & Co. since the beginning of the pandemic, we have had to adapt many of our projects to make them happen. Here is a review of the past year, which featured the launch of our new restaurant concept and grocery products, as well as the continuation of our expansion throughout Quebec.

A New branding and a New Restaurant Concept

Entirely developed by the 3rd generation of the Benny family and the management committee, our new restaurant concept features a modern and refined dining room integrating a bar area in the heart of a sound and lighting ambiance adapted to the time of day. Our brand’s existing restaurants will be renovated over the next few years to reflect Benny & Co.’s vision of  the future, and our logo has been modernized for the occasion. The famous rooster has been slightly modified to adapt more easily to different visual montages, while still keeping its original colours. As for the name of the company, it is much more visible and is presented in new ways.

In a desire to continue our partnerships with Quebec-based companies, we are proud to have collaborated with Pic-Bois Design, who created the new custom furniture, and the agencies AX Design and Ogilvy Montreal, who participated in the creation of the new concept inspired by the values of the Benny family: a new place to gather with a resolutely pleasant, warm and authentic character. The use of natural and ecological materials, such as wooden tables, concrete, and brick walls, as well as handcrafted and local lighting fixtures, will make our restaurants among the most convivial.

The arrival of Benny&Co. in grocery stores

Since June 2021, Benny & Co. has launched four frozen products, including three poultry and one soy-based product, and the famous Benny & Co. BBQ sauce, which are now available exclusively in IGA grocery stores across Quebec. The Chick’n Tenders, Veggie Fingers, Winnin’ Wings and Bits O’Chicken stand out from the competition thanks to their generous portions (650 grams per box) for a similar or slightly lower price. What more could you ask for?

In this new adventure, Benny & Co. has partnered with Novo Poultry and Produits Alimentaires Berthelet, both leaders in their field who prioritize the quality of our raw material, food safety and local products. Novo Poultry has an innovative poultry cooking plant that meets the latest and most demanding standards of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. Produits Alimentaires Berthelet creates sauces based on the quality, consistency and tastiness of its products. In fact, the Benny & Co. sauce in grocery stores has the same taste as the one found in our rotisseries.

The family grows, again

This year, the chain also continued its expansion across Quebec and opened seven new restaurants, including three in Montreal and one in Chicoutimi, our first in the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region. We have created close to 200 jobs with these recent openings and are always looking for new candidates to join our growing family in one of our 71 restaurants!

EXPANSION OF BENNY & CO. IN THE SAGUENAY-LAC-SAINT-JEAN

MAJOR FAMILY-OWNED CHAIN ARRIVES IN CHICOUTIMI

CHICOUTIMI, November 15, 2021. — Benny & Co., the largest family-owned rotisserie chain in Quebec, is proud to announce its arrival in the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region with the unveiling of a Benny & Co. restaurant in Chicoutimi. After more than six years of research and planning, it is with great enthusiasm that the Benny family is establishing itself in Saguenay, in addition to opening a second restaurant in Jonquière in 2022.

The construction of the Benny & Co. restaurant in Chicoutimi, in collaboration with Drumco Construction, required an investment of $2 million for the design and interior layout, in addition to investments for the purchase of the land and the construction of the building, which was carried out in collaboration with many of the region’s tradespeople. The 3,800-square-foot restaurant will accommodate 120 customers. The new co-franchisees Mélanie Durocher and Michel Grenier have been working at Benny & Co. for 25 years.

“Our family history continues in Saguenay thanks to Mélanie and Michel who accepted the challenge to settle here. Benny & Co. is a family business that was born in the regions, and we are convinced that the values that drive us will resonate in the hearts of the people of Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean. We are happy and excited to meet them and to become part of their community,” added Jean Benny, President and CEO of Benny & Co..

Benny & Co. Chicoutimi, located at 860 Alma Street, is now offering counter service and dining room service, while delivery will be available by early December 2021. As for Benny & Co. Jonquière, located at 3718 Harvey Boulevard, it will open by the fall of 2022. The opening of these two restaurants represents the creation of over 70 jobs in the region.

The next generation of the Benny family implemented several projects in 2021

In 2021, Benny & Co. unveiled a new interior design concept for its restaurants and launched its grocery products, in addition to continuing its expansion across Quebec with the opening of seven restaurants, including three in Montreal. It should be noted that Benny&Co. Magog will open its doors on November 24.

The year 2022 also looks very promising, with the opening of five restaurants in the cities of Longueuil, Terrebonne, Laval, Rosemère and La Plaine, as well as the groundbreaking at construction sites for future restaurants to be located in Lachenaie, Beloeil, Jonquière and Mont-Laurier. Carried out in collaboration with Odacité Immobilier and Canadian Net Real Estate Investment Trust, these four projects represent an investment of over $8 million.

“The year 2021 has seen the announcement of several projects on which the next generation has been at work for several years. We want to provide our customers with a new experience, both in the restaurant and at home, in line with our vision for the future at Benny & Co. Our work continues, as new grocery products will be announced in the coming year,” said Elisabeth Benny, Marketing and Public Relations Vice-President at Benny & Co.

Benny & Co. is currently researching new locations in the Chaudière-Appalaches, Bas-Saint-Laurent and Mauricie regions.

Benny & Co. has arrived in downtown Montreal

Last April, Benny&Co. made its debut in downtown Montreal with the opening of its 66th rotisserie, marking the launch of its new restaurant concept. Since then, the Rosemont and Old Montreal locations have also opened their doors and the community was invited to celebrate in style.

VIP pre-opening of Benny&Co. Old Montreal

On July 14th, Benny&Co. held the VIP pre-opening of its Old Montreal location. Located near the Notre-Dame de Montréal Basilica, the Palais des congrès de Montréal and Pointe-à-Callière, the rotisserie welcomed members of the media and influencers with its exclusive tender and juicy roast chicken recipe.

During this convivial evening, guests were able to discover the brand-new restaurant concept, an evolution of the original restaurant created in 2006. The new concept, bearing the imprint of the 3rd generation of the Benny family, proposes a modern and refined dining room integrating a bar area with a brand-new cocktail menu, as well as a new ready-to-eat take-out counter.

600 free meals distributed to Montrealers

To celebrate its arrival downtown, the family-owned chain invited residents to join the party by offering them free take-out meals. A total of 600 delicious meals were given to the first customers of the Benny&Co. Downtown, Rosemont and Old Montreal locations during a day of festivities on July 22.

Hope to see you at our new downtown location soon!

Meet 5 of Benny&Co.’s local partners.

If Benny&Co. can take pride in serving you meals comprised of more than 80% local ingredients, it is thanks to its many partners and suppliers from here. It is due to the efforts of numerous businesses that Benny&Co. is probably the most Quebecois of roasters. Today, we present you five of them.

Hydroserre, our lettuce supplier – Valérie Terrault, Brand Manager at Hydroserre

Hydroserre, it’s a family story, isn’t it?

Yes, like Benny&Co, Hydroserre is a family business! The company was founded in 1987 by my father and it is still owned by my parents. My brother, my cousin, and my uncle and I now work at their side in the business. They have a lot of confidence in us!

What makes Quebec special for your company’s activities?

Although we export to the United States, Quebec remains our main market. Since we produce vegetables 12 months a year, we offer Quebecers the freshest local products—even in winter. Not everyone in a Nordic country can boast of that.

Also, Quebecers are receptive to agriculture and local supply, especially since the beginning of the pandemic. We hope that this will continue, because it makes a difference for companies like ours and Benny&Co.

What is the history of your partnership with Benny&Co.?

The Benny&Co. team approached us about a year ago. Before that, we had little presence in the restaurant industry, as our products are slightly more expensive than those of some American giants. Benny&Co. is one of the first companies in its sector that was willing to pay the right price to encourage local suppliers, while remaining affordable. It was a bold move and it’s a credit to them. Hats off to Benny&Co.!

Mejicano, our tortilla supplier – Philippe Gadoua, co-owner and president of Mejicano

How did the story of your partnership with Benny&Co. begin?

We approached Benny&Co. earlier this year. Luckily, they were looking for Quebec suppliers to offer a maximum of local ingredients to their customers. With this commitment to local sourcing, we obviously had chemistry! In addition, the Benny&Co. team is not complicated, and is accessible and down to earth, just like us.

Have you seen an evolution in the importance of local?

There is no doubt about it! We have noticed a craze for buying local, as much among grocery store consumers as among restaurant owners. We have noticed a great awareness, especially in the last year and a half. The public understands that by buying local, the money stays here, the taxes are paid here, and it enriches Quebec.

What is your greatest pride?

Our greatest pride is to be the only major producer of Quebec-owned tortillas whose products are certified Aliments du Québec. We are a growing company, and this is just the beginning!

Fromagerie St-Guillaume, our cheese supplier – Robert Cloutier, Sales Manager at St-Guillaume

What is the story of St-Guillaume?

St-Guillaume is a cheese factory that belongs to the COOP Agrilait, which was founded in 1940 by milk producers following the Great Depression. The COOP is owned by over 200 milk producers and today employs over 250 people. Quebec is our main market, but as poutine is  gaining in popularity around the world, we now have several customers in Europe and North America.

It is the cheese curds that put St-Guillaume on the map. It represents 70% of our production, but we also produce other types of cheese. What makes our cheese curds special is our “cheddarization” process which makes them more elastic, keeps them whiter and ensures that they do not fall apart in the sauce.

How does your company make you proud?

As managers, we admire above all the pride that our employees and the people of the region have for our company and our products. We are THE cheese of the Drummondville region, THE home of poutine.

Our COOP model is also a great source of pride, we are owned by the producers of the region and our values of solidarity and mutual aid are felt at all levels in the company.

What is it like working with Benny&Co.?

I know them very well. We talk every week! They are people who demand as much from others as they do from themselves. I find it admirable that they work with local producers.

It’s also a company that gives back, and that’s in line with our values. We are always happy to participate in fundraising activities for the Benny&Co Foundation.

MAG Group, our mayonnaise supplier – Hugo Magnan, President of MAG Group

What does being a family business mean to you?

It means a lot! Our company was founded by my father in 1989, and I officially joined in 1999. I literally grew up in the business.

Together we have transformed, modernized and diversified our business, while remaining 100% family-owned and local. It is a great source of pride to have succeeded in bringing my father’s dream to where it is today. I hope my children will one day want to take the reins.

What is the story behind your products?

Initially, my father owned fish shops and we produced seafood mousse by hand. After several years of growth, we built our first factory and moved our operations.

As our equipment allowed us to produce other types of food, we started producing mayonnaises and custom-made sauces for restaurants. More recently, we opened a second plant near Quebec City, in Saint-Augustin.

What do you like about your collaboration with Benny&Co.?

We’d really like to acknowledge the appreciation they show their suppliers. It is so appreciated! It highlights the fact that it’s never just one company that creates a success, but also all the partners behind it.

Les Serres Royales, our tomato supplier – Stéphan Lemieux, General Manager of Les Serres Royales

How did the Lemieux family start producing tomatoes?

My parents used to have an auto parts business. At some point, my dad wanted to do something totally different. When we talked about farming, we went into greenhouse farming because it was a ground-breaking field, and it had a technology component.

We built and expanded our greenhouses ourselves, little by little. In 2015, we had 3 hectares and have grown to 6 hectares, our current size. Half of our greenhouses have also been converted to organic farming. Starting in 2021, we will be able to produce 12 months a year, much to the delight of our clients like Benny&Co. who have been very accommodating to us in recent years.

What makes you most proud?

One of our great sources of pride is that we have gone green. We recover all the water we reject, we recover heat, we heat with biomass, we reduce plastic and cardboard packaging to a minimum. It’s a job and an industry that require perseverance, but we are tenacious!

What is it like to run a family business?

We are a family business and have been around since the mid-1990s. My parents founded and grew the business, and my brother Pascal and I are now co-owners. It’s all I’ve ever known, so it’s a natural fit for me. Everyone has their strengths, and we complement each other much more than we confront each other. Our local suppliers are true partners in our success.

Thanks to these companies, we can offer you a menu that is as delicious for you and your family as it is good for the local economy. A special thank you to the 5 suppliers and all our other partners for their hard work 365 days a year.

The company also encourages Quebec-based producers by sourcing over 85% of its products from here.
